Teaching as an Extension of Storytelling

Author: Parismita Singh

As an educator, I view teaching as another form of storytelling. It’s about sharing knowledge, inspiring creativity, and sparking curiosity in others. I teach because I want to pass on the lessons I’ve learned throughout my journey as a writer and illustrator. Whether in the classroom or through workshops, I encourage my students to see the world with an open mind and to view storytelling as a fluid, evolving art form. The process of teaching allows me to learn just as much as my students, as we exchange ideas and perspectives on the power of narrative and creativity.

Through teaching, I’ve seen firsthand how art can be a powerful tool for connection. Whether it’s through graphic novels or illustrated stories, the ability to create something that resonates with people from different walks of life is something I strive to instill in my students. The classroom becomes a space where we experiment with storytelling, where we encourage each other to push boundaries, and where we remind ourselves that the best stories are those that speak to the human experience.
